Boldwin Alec
Birthplace: New York, USA
Date of Birth: 04/03/1958
Alec Baldwin, the full name is Alexander Rae Baldwin III.
His father was a teacher at school, although he dreamed
of a political career. Alec was very fond of his father and
was shocked by his death from cancer at age 55 in
1983. Alec was the second of six children. To earn
money he worked as a waiter, a driver and a salesman
of shirts. He dreamed of becoming a lawyer, a famous
politician. But in 1979, after three years of studies at
George Washington University, he decided to leave this
business and try his hand at acting. This decision was
influenced by two factors: he lost the election in the
university not having got 2 votes to become the
president of the student society and at the same time he
broke up with his girlfriend. He goes to New York
University and starts studying at faculty of "politics and
drama." Even before graduation, he has been able to
play the role of villain in the TV series "Doctor." Having
spent 2.5 years in this series, he leaves the show and
moves to Los Angeles, where he quickly gets the main
role in popular series "Cutter to Houston". Work in this
short-lived TV series helped him get a role in primetime-
series "Knots Landing" in 1984, where he played a
preacher Joshua.
In 1986 he appeared in the miniseries "Dress Grey", where he played the major role of cadet Ray Slate,
who was forced to investigate the murder of his classmate, in which Ray himself was accused. Producer
and director of this series told about the actor's samples: "I thought, if I hear once more the scene, then I will
scream, but when Alex read the text, it seemed I heard it first. It's really unusual for Alec was so handsome
and so talented."
He then acted in small parts in such films as "Madness of streets", "She is expecting a baby", "Merchandising", "Married to the Mob" with Michelle Pfeiffer, "Beetlejuice", "Working Girl", "Great balls
of fire".
But first of all Baldwin prefers to play in the theater. He made his debut on Broadway in Joe Orton's black comedy "Loot" which has won him the prestigious Theatre World Award in 1986. In the
next six years he played in several productions, including "Prelude to a Kiss", which later was moved to the big screen. In 1991, he gets another theater award "Obie Award Best Actor".
In 1990 he played the title role of CIA analyst Jack Ryan, in the blockbuster "Chasing "the Red October", where his partner was Sean Connery. It was a breakthrough to great movies. The film
grossed about 200 million in the U.S. and made Alec a star of first magnitude. During the 2 sequels ("The Game of patriots" and "Direct and clear threat"), Alec was offered an honorarium of 14
million, but he refused to shoot in order to play on Broadway in Tennessee Williams' cult play "A Streetcar Named Desire." He received the prestigious theater "Tony Award" for the role of Stanley
Kowalski.
After that he starred in the films "Alice" and Woody Allen's "Miami Blues". In 1990 he started shooting in the scandalously famous film, which came to us on a pirate video titled "Marrying" (The
Marrying Man). He played a wealthy playboy Charley Pearl. Co-star was Kim Basinger. And Alex fell in love with her at first sight.
After filming this movie, Alec starred in "Prelude to a Kiss" - the film version of the theatrical productions in which he played the title role of Peter. Then there was a small but memorable role in a
great movie "Glengarry Glen Ross", where his partners were Al Pacino and Jack Lemmon. Later there were the leading roles in such films as "Malice" with Nicole Kidman and Bill Pulmann, where
he played Dr. Jed Hill - a talented surgeon, imagining himself to be God, and "Escape", where his partner on the film again was Kim Basinger.
In 1993, he returned to NYU to finish it. The same year, Baldwin was withdrawn in the movie "The Shadow" - the film adaptation of the popular in the 30's comics. Shadow was the second "I" of a
brilliant playboy Lemont Cranston, who was king of the underworld some years ago. It is opposed by a descendant of Genghis Khan - Shiva-Khan, who seeks to take over the world. The producer
of this film recalls: "I admired Alec Baldwin and when I wrote the script, I imagined it was he to play "Shadow", his eyes and his voice suited Lamont Cranston so much. In fact, he was the first and
the only actor for this role."
August 19, 1993 Alec married Kim Basinger, the ceremony was held in a place not far from his native town, where he was born and raised. This wedding was preceded by a
long courtship. Perhaps decisive for Basinger was the story with the movie "Elena in a box" scenario of which she did not even bother to read, but gave verbal agreement for
the filming. Finally after reading the script, she was horrified and refused to withdraw. Film Studio, which was supposed to shoot a movie, sued the actress for damages and
the Court decided the compensation of $ 6 million. Basinger was devastated, her accounts were frozen, but it did not prevent her from attending expensive shops and paying
by Alec's credit card. Alec married her and made reparation for all her debts.
In 1995 theater production of "A Streetcar Named Desire" was transferred to TV, where Alec once again played Stanley Kowalski, a role for which he received the nomination
at the festival "Golden Globe" and "Emmy" Awards. Blanche Dubois was played by Jessica Lange. In the same year, Alec had a daughter named Island Alice (Alec's
ancestors were Irish).
